UW Urology Shines at AUA 2025 Annual Meeting

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Urology made a significant impact at the 2025 American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting, held April 26–29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This premier global event attracted thousands of urologists and featured cutting-edge research, clinical innovations, and educational sessions.​

Dr. Stephen Nakada, professor and chair of the UW–Madison Department of Urology, presided over the meeting – his final act as the 2024-2025 AUA President.  Dr. Nakada’s involvement throughout his year as president highlighted UW–Urology’s integral role in shaping national urologic policy and education. His inspiring leadership underscored the department’s commitment to advancing the field of urology.

The department’s excellence was further recognized through several prestigious awards:​

  • Hugh Hampton Young Award: Dr. David Jarrard, professor and vice chair, was honored for his outstanding contributions to prostate cancer research and treatment.

  • William P. Didusch Art and History Award: Dr. Sutchin R. Patel, Clinical Assistant Adjunct Professor, received this award for his dedication to preserving the history and art of urology.

  • Presidential Citations: Drs. E. Jason Abel, Walid Farhat, Sarah McAchran, Kristina Penniston, Kyle Richards, and William Ricke were honored for their significant contributions to urology. ​
  • UW Urology Residents earn Silver Medal in AUA National Residency Abstract Olympics

Clinical and Research Presentations

UW–Urology faculty, residents, and fellows presented a diverse array of research at the meeting. Their work spanned various subspecialties, including urologic oncology, stone disease, and health disparities. These presentations showcased the department’s commitment to advancing clinical care and addressing pressing issues in urology.​

Educational Initiatives

Faculty members participated in instructional courses and panel discussions, sharing their expertise on topics such as kidney stone prevention, metabolic evaluation, and endourology.
