The Department of Urology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health was recently named an InterStim Center of Excellence. This recognition distinguishes UW Urology as the only academic center in Wisconsin with the Center of Excellence designation.
The InterStim Center of Excellence, awarded by Medtronic, recognizes physicians and programs who demonstrate exemplary use of the InterStim System as well as a commitment to patient care for those suffering from symptoms associated with overactive bladder, accidental bowel leakage, and urinary incontinence. According to the Urology Care Foundation, as many as 30 percent of men and 40 percent of women in the United States live with overactive bladder symptoms.
To date, the department has treated more than 650 patients with sacral neuromodulation (SNM) and continues to lead in the management of overactive bladder with urge incontinence.
The Medtronic InterStim X with SureScan lead technology is currently the most advanced device of its kind. It is a recharge-free system with full-body MRI eligibility and up to 15-year battery life. SNM is FDA-approved for overactive bladder symptoms, fecal incontinence, and non-obstructive urinary retention.
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Specialists Drs. Sarah McAchran and Frank Lin continue to manage OAB with full-spectrum minimally invasive therapies, including SNM with Interstim, bladder injections with Botox, and tibial nerve stimulation.
