William Ricke, PhD, recognized at UW SMPH Investiture Celebration

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to urologic research and academic leadership, William A. Ricke, PhD, professor in the University of Wisconsin Department of Urology, was formally presented with the Department of Urology Research Professorship at the at the annual University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) Investiture Celebration. Held on June 18, 2025 at the Fluno Center in Madison, WI, the event brought together more than 150 attendees, including colleagues, supporters, and university leadership, to celebrate the achievements of distinguished UW SMPH faculty.

Dr. Ricke also serves as the Director of the George M. O’Brien Center for Benign Urology Research. His work focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying lower urinary tract dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia, with a particular emphasis on hormonally regulated paracrine signaling. His research aims to identify novel therapeutic strategies for these conditions.

In addition to his research accomplishments, Dr. Ricke has demonstrated strong leadership within the scientific community. In 2023, he was elected President of the Society for Basic Urologic Research (SBUR), further highlighting his influence in the field and commitment to fostering collaboration among urologic researchers.

The Department of Urology Research Professorship will support Dr. Ricke’s ongoing investigations and further advance the department’s mission to improve urologic health through innovation and discovery.
