Ricke Lab and Collaborators Publish a New Approach for Characterizing Mouse Urinary Pathophysiologies

In a new publication in Physiological Reports, UW O’Brien Center researchers demonstrate a new approach for characterizing mouse urinary pathophysiologies using Void Spot Assay (VSA) technology. The findings support continued use of VSA for etiologic and therapeutic testing in mice and demonstrate, for the first time, that the VSA is not only sensitive enough to detect differences from controls but also separate different types of voiding dysfunction. The findings also suggest that aged mice develop urinary dysfunction consistent with the range of etiologies in men and support their use as an ideal animal model in LUTS research.
